A moving “must-see”

We’ve all heard of successful baseball player, Daryl Strawberry.  Yet, as successful as Daryl was on the playing field, his life off the field was far from problem-free.  Daryl freely acknowledges that his relationship with his own father was difficult, at best.  And while he doesn’t completely blame his father for his own mistakes, he does concede that a lot of his own struggles probably stem from being alienated from his dad.

Take a moment now to watch this moving video of Daryl discussing his tumultuous relationship with his father.  Then, take a few moments tonight to sit down with your own kids, give them a hug, and ask them “When you’re a parent, what is one thing you want to do differently than your mom and I have done with you? Why?”  I guarantee you’ll get some great food for thought!

Blessings,

Shaun

I like the suggestion about asking my kids what they would do differently as parents. I am looking forward to doing this with my 11 and 8 yr olds. I know I might hear some things that hurt at first but I want to be a better parent. I know that hearing things from their perspective can do nothing but help me figure out how to be a better Dad.

    God Bless!

Why would you ask your children how YOU can be a better father? How could they possibly have the wisdom that you need? The only place for you to find the answer to that question is in the word of God, the bible. Start with the book of Proverbs. You can truly trust the information. Oh!, don’t forget to ask God for wisdom and understanding!

    God bless you, too!

That was a great video. I am trying real hard to do things differntly with my kids compared to how I was raised. I think that is why I am trying so hard to be a successful real estate investor. We always worried about money as kids and of course dad was stressed and or angry. Everybody doesnt need to be filthy rich but you need to get the worrying about money out of your life. I know I can show people that at http://www.wealthwithhouses.blogspot.com

    thanks for sharing that video

    Hi Dan,

On one level I have to agree with you and on another I don’t. I do ask my daughter frequently what I can do to be a better father to her. While she may not give me Biblical wisdom, she certainly can tell me from a child’s perspective, certainly her perspective of how I can be a better father to HER. It’s amazing at the little things that she may say. It’s not a bad question to ask of your children, they may reveal things to you that never crossed your mind.
    Blessings,

    Steve

Can you please be a little more specific Dan. There seems to be a conflict in my interpretation of Jesus’ teachings and your statements.

Im thankful that you have the understanding that you say you have about this, so which part of proverbs are you referring to?

    Jerry
